OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, has unveiled a new AI model that appears to be mind-blowing. Sora, the model, can make a one-minute film with just written suggestions. “We’re teaching AI to understand and simulate the physical world in motion, with the goal of training models which help people solve problems that require real-world interaction,” states the post on the OpenAI Sora website.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman also demonstrated the feature through postings on his X account. “We’d like to show you what sora can do, please reply with captions for videos that you’d like to see, and we’ll start making some!” Altman wrote in his post. Many people on the platform provided him hints, and the results he presented appear quite realistic.

Another OpenAI user posted a Sora-generated movie, and it’s hard to believe how realistic it seems.
OpenAI claims that Sora can create complicated scenarios with several people, accurate motions, and rich surroundings. The model not only understands the user’s cues, but also interprets how these elements appear in real-world situations. “The model has a thorough comprehension of language, allowing it to effectively read cues and create fascinating characters who communicate strong emotions. Sora may also construct several shots inside a single created film that faithfully preserve personalities and visual style,” according to OpenAI.
While the OpenAI Sora model has sparked a lot of interest on the internet this morning, prominent YouTuber Marques Brownlee aka MKBHD has correctly pointed out several potential problems about the model. “Every single one of these videos is AI-generated, and if this doesn’t concern you at least a little bit, nothing will,” he said in his blog post.
The OpenAI Sora model’s capabilities are impressive at the present. However, being skeptical of a model that can create a one-minute film from basic text instructions is critical, since it might be easily abused. If you remember the AI-generated video of Will Smith eating spaghetti that went popular in early 2023, you’ll recognize Sora’s major departure from that. There was another one with Scarlett Johansson chewing stuff. Sora makes a significant advance with its uncannily realistic-looking films.
However, OpenAI is not bashful about discussing safety. The business adds that before deploying Sora in OpenAI products, various critical safety procedures will be implemented. This involves working with red teamers, who are experts in disinformation, hostile content, and bias, to thoroughly test the model and uncover any flaws. In addition, OpenAI will provide tools to detect false information, such as a detection classifier capable of spotting Sora-generated movies.
