Pujara’s Straightforward Warning
Pujara didn’t sugarcoat it. He said that for senior players like Rohit and Kohli, who no longer play all formats, getting back into top rhythm after long breaks can be tougher than it looks.
According to him, consistency in the same format matters a lot, especially when you’re nearing the back end of your international career.
He explained, “If you’re playing in the same format, the series will be crucial for both. They need to stay engaged, otherwise playing after a long break gets harder. Because of their age, they’ll have to work even harder, which they already are. Hopefully, they continue till the 2027 World Cup.”
Pujara also spoke from personal experience — having played mostly one format, he knows how difficult it is to regain flow after time away from the field.

Aussie Tour Recap: Rohit Shined, Kohli Fought Back
Rohit Sharma impressed during the ODI series in Australia, showing both flair and reliability. Kohli, on the other hand, had a rocky start with two ducks but bounced back in style with an unbeaten 74 in the final match.
That knock was a reminder that even if there’s a dip, his hunger for runs isn’t going anywhere.
Pujara on Shami’s Absence
When asked about Mohammed Shami being left out, Pujara said it’s something only selectors and management can explain.
“They should be honest with him. What are the plans ahead? Do they want him or are they going with younger players?” he said, hinting at a communication gap that needs clarity.
What’s Next for Rohit & Kohli?
Both superstars have already stepped away from Test and T20I cricket, focusing only on ODIs now. The upcoming three-match ODI series against South Africa will be an important test to see how quickly they find their rhythm again.
