Skoda and Volkswagen closed December 2025 on very different notes in India. While Skoda leaned heavily on the Kylaq to post year-on-year growth, Volkswagen stayed afloat largely thanks to the Virtus sedan. Together, the two brands finished ninth and tenth in the monthly manufacturer rankings, offering a clear snapshot of where they stand heading into 2026.

Kylaq Does the Heavy Lifting for Skoda
Skoda wrapped up December with 5,567 units, a 22% year-on-year rise, and the story is simple: Kylaq. The sub-4m SUV sold 3,668 units, accounting for well over half of the brand’s total. It also grew 4% month-on-month, showing steady demand as the year ended.
The rest of Skoda’s line-up had a tougher month. Kushaq dropped to 958 units, down 61% YoY, though it did bounce back 63% over November. Slavia followed a similar pattern with 711 units, slipping 62% YoY and 37% MoM. Among the premium offerings, Kodiaq added 230 units, up 19% YoY and 50% MoM, while Superb and Octavia remained largely absent from retail volumes.

Virtus Holds the Fort for Volkswagen
Volkswagen ended December with 4,256 units, an 11% YoY decline, but a healthy 27% MoM increase. Once again, the Virtus was the backbone, clocking 2,378 units—up 5% YoY and 7% over November. It also retained its position as India’s best-selling midsize sedan for the month.
The Taigun continued to face pressure at 1,778 units, down 24% YoY, despite a strong 65% MoM rebound. The Tiguan stayed niche with 100 units, while the Golf remained off the charts.

What This Means Going Forward
December underlined a familiar theme. Volume for both brands is still driven by MQB A0 IN-based models, and that’s where the focus will stay. Updated versions of their midsize SUVs and sedans are expected this year, and those refreshes will be crucial if Skoda and Volkswagen want broader, more balanced growth beyond a single star performer.
