Tata Motors is gearing up for a big leap in the electric vehicle space with the Avinya EV series, its most premium and technology-forward EV lineup so far. The company has confirmed that the first Avinya model will hit the market by the end of 2026, marking a clear shift towards higher-end electric mobility.
Unveiled initially as a concept at the 2022 Auto Expo and later in an evolved form as the Avinya X at the 2025 Auto Expo, the Avinya brand represents Tata’s next-generation EV vision—both in design and engineering.

Sportback first, SUV to follow
The Avinya range will debut with a sleek sportback-style electric vehicle, moving away from the traditional SUV-heavy approach seen in Tata’s current EV portfolio. A more upright, SUV-like Avinya model will follow at a later stage.
This staggered rollout suggests Tata is keen to test the premium EV waters before expanding the Avinya nameplate into multiple body styles.
Built on JLR’s advanced EMA platform
One of the biggest talking points around Avinya is its underpinnings. The entire lineup will be based on Jaguar Land Rover’s Electrified Modular Architecture (EMA), a ground-up electric skateboard platform developed for next-gen EVs.
This architecture allows:
- Flexible vehicle sizes and body styles
- Faster development cycles
- Support for advanced battery and motor technologies
The move also highlights the growing technical collaboration between Tata Motors and Jaguar Land Rover, especially for future-focused electric products.
Premium positioning with global rivals in sight
Unlike Tata’s mass-market EVs such as the Nexon EV and Punch EV, Avinya will sit right at the top of the brand’s lineup. The company is targeting the premium EV segment, putting Avinya in the same conversation as global models like the Hyundai IONIQ 5 and Kia EV6.
Industry expectations suggest pricing could start north of ₹40 lakh, making Avinya Tata’s flagship electric offering in India.
A clear design break from current Tata EVs
While production details are still under wraps, the concepts showcased so far hint at a strong design shift. Expect:
- Distinctive T-shaped LED lighting elements
- Clean, futuristic exterior surfaces
- An upmarket, lounge-like cabin layout
Inside, the Avinya concepts feature a two-spoke steering wheel, a neatly integrated digital instrument cluster, a large infotainment display, and a minimalistic dashboard—clearly aimed at buyers upgrading from luxury ICE vehicles.

Long range, multiple drivetrain options
On the powertrain front, the Avinya EV series is expected to offer:
- Two-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations
- Multiple battery pack options
- A claimed real-world range comfortably exceeding 600 km
This range figure, combined with the EMA platform’s efficiency, positions Avinya as a serious long-distance EV—something Indian premium EV buyers increasingly expect.
Big investment, long-term EV roadmap
Tata Motors has earmarked ₹18,000 crore specifically for EV development and expansion, with the Avinya lineup forming a core part of that strategy. Over time, the Avinya nameplate could branch out into multiple models, body styles, and price points within the premium segment.
For Tata, Avinya isn’t just another EV—it’s a statement about where the brand is headed in the electric era.
