Tata Motors is gearing up for a busy year in the electric vehicle space. The carmaker has confirmed that the updated Punch EV will arrive on February 20, while the much-anticipated Sierra EV is lined up for a mid-2026 launch. Together, the two SUVs will strengthen Tata’s hold across both affordable and premium EV segments in India.

If you’re planning to go electric, there’s a good chance one of these could fit your budget or wishlist.

Punch EV Facelift: Familiar, but Sharper

The Punch EV facelift isn’t getting a full makeover, but Tata has added enough tweaks to keep things fresh.

Up front, the black strip that earlier linked the headlights has been removed, giving the nose a cleaner look. The grille stays closed-off, as expected on an EV, but it’s now slightly redesigned. The bumper and scuff plate look more sculpted, and new alloy wheels should help the car stand out a bit more on the road. A few new colour options are also likely.

Inside, the changes are subtle. Expect updated seat fabrics and trims to lift the cabin feel. The big talking point, though, is a larger 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which should make the dashboard look more modern and tech-heavy. There’s also chatter about a possible Level 2 ADAS package, which would be a big step up for safety in this segment.

Battery and Range Stay the Same

Under the skin, Tata isn’t changing much — and that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

The Punch EV will continue with two battery options:

    • 25kWh pack – claimed range of 265km
    • 35kWh pack – claimed range of 365km

These figures already make the Punch EV one of the more practical city-friendly electric SUVs, especially for daily commutes and short trips. Keeping the same powertrain also helps Tata maintain proven reliability.

    Sierra EV: The Big Comeback

Now comes the more exciting part.

The Sierra name carries serious nostalgia for Indian buyers, and Tata is bringing it back in an all-electric avatar. While the company hasn’t shared full details yet, early previews suggest a bold, modern design with classic Sierra cues.

Expect typical EV styling elements like a blanked-off grille, sharper bumpers, and a more aerodynamic shape. But the bigger focus will likely be on technology and comfort.

    Bigger Battery, More Power

The Sierra EV is expected to borrow its platform and powertrain from the Harrier EV. If that happens, buyers could get some impressive numbers.

Possible battery and performance options include:

    • 65kWh battery – up to 538km claimed range, 235bhp, 315Nm
    • 75kWh battery – around 390bhp, 504Nm

Tata may also introduce a dual-motor or all-wheel-drive setup, which would make the Sierra one of the most powerful homegrown electric SUVs yet.

Simply put, this won’t be a small city EV — it’s shaping up to be a proper long-distance family SUV.

    Tata’s EV Push Gets Stronger

Tata already leads India’s electric car market with models like the Nexon EV and Tiago EV. With the refreshed Punch EV targeting budget-conscious buyers and the Sierra EV aiming at premium customers, the company is clearly covering both ends of the spectrum.

For buyers, that means more choice, better tech, and stronger competition.

February 20 will give us a clearer picture with the Punch EV facelift launch, while the Sierra EV still has some waiting time. But if you’re planning an electric SUV purchase in the next couple of years, these two should definitely be on your radar.
