Tata Motors – Electric Vehicle Leadership
Tata Motors has been a market leader in the passenger EV category for some years.
In FY20, the business sold 1,300 electric vehicles, 4,200 in FY21, 19,700 in FY22, 50,000 in FY23, and 38,000 in H1 FY24. It held 40% of the market in FY20, 72% in FY21, 87% in FY22, 84% in FY23, and 73% in H1 FY24.
The Punch.ev is Tata’s third electric vehicle, following the successful Nexon.ev, Tigor.ev, and Tiago.ev.
Architecture by acti.ev
As previously stated, the Tata Punch.ev is the company’s first model to be built on the new acti.ev architecture. According to the business, acti.ev will power Tata’s future electric vehicles in a variety of body shapes and sizes. Acti.ev, according to the business, is a global-ready, future-facing pure electric architecture that allows for the inclusion of software-oriented features.
New acti.ev Architecture – USPs
According to Tata, the acti.ev architecture comprises of the four levels listed below.
Powertrain is the first layer.
acti.ev has an optimized battery pack design with cells that have been tested to advanced worldwide standards, resulting in a 10% increase in energy density. This battery pack design also provides a variety of range options ranging from 300km to 600km. The design also provides for versatility in selecting the proper drivetrain choice for the product, such as AWD, RWD, or FWD. acti.ve can handle 7.2kW to 11kW onboard chargers for AC fast charging and DC fast charging up to 150kW, resulting in an additional 100km range in less than 10 minutes.
Chassis is the second layer.
The second layer of this design can accommodate numerous body types and has a strengthened body structure that can fulfill future Global NCAP/Bharat NCAP safety regulations. With a flat floor and no transmission tunnel, acti.ev maximizes cabin space and storage, giving additional space for people in the cabin. Its lower center of gravity contributes to better driving dynamics and handling.
Electrical Architecture (Layer 3)
acti.ev is a scalable architecture designed for the future, with increased processing power and ADAS level 2 capabilities. The architecture is prepared for ADAS L2+ capabilities, guaranteeing improved safety and navigation requirements. Its 5G capability enables enhanced network speeds as well as seamless communication. Vehicle-to-load (V2L) and vehicle-to-vehicle charging (V2V) technology will also be supported by the architecture.
