Toyota Plans 15 New SUVs and Pickups for India — Starting With Fortuner, Hilux & Urban Cruiser EV

Toyota’s Big India Plan: More Authentic, Premium Models Ahead

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) is switching gears in India. The Japanese giant, known for its reliability, is moving away from badge-engineered Maruti Suzuki models to focus on a more “authentic Toyota” lineup. The company has lined up 15 new models by the end of the decade, and about five of them — all SUVs and pickups — are expected to arrive within the next two to three years.

This new strategy aims to re-establish Toyota’s image as a maker of rugged, premium vehicles rather than small city commuters. And honestly, it’s about time — because India’s love for SUVs and adventure-ready vehicles is only getting stronger.

1. Toyota Land Cruiser FJ: Compact Yet Capable

Meet the Toyota Land Cruiser FJ, the brand’s upcoming off-road icon designed for real-world use. At 4,575 mm long and 1,855 mm wide, it’s smaller than the Prado but just as tough. The FJ keeps that signature Land Cruiser DNA — boxy, muscular, and purpose-built.

Expected to launch around 2028, it’ll come with petrol, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid options. Pricing could hover around ₹30 lakh (ex-showroom), making it the most affordable “true Land Cruiser” ever in India.

2. Toyota Urban Cruiser EV: Electric And Exciting

By mid-2026, Toyota will join India’s booming EV segment with the Urban Cruiser EV. This model will share its bones with the upcoming Maruti e-Vitara, but expect Toyota’s unique touch in styling, comfort, and tech.

Two LFP battery packs — 49 kWh and 61 kWh — are likely on offer, paired with 142 hp and 172 hp electric motors. The larger variant could offer over 500 km of range, taking the fight straight to the Hyundai Creta EV and Tata Curvv EV.

Manufacturing will take place in Gujarat, alongside its Maruti counterpart, helping Toyota keep pricing competitive while maintaining its premium appeal.

3. Next-Gen Toyota Hilux: The Legend Reloaded

Toyota has officially confirmed that the next-gen Hilux will be unveiled on November 10, with an India launch expected by late 2026. The new model will feature sharper styling, a more refined cabin, and loads of tech upgrades — including a digital cluster, a larger touchscreen, and improved connectivity.

While the Hilux has always been more of a lifestyle pickup here, Toyota hopes the next-gen version will appeal to a broader base — from business owners to weekend off-roaders.

4. Next-Gen Toyota Fortuner: India’s Favorite SUV Evolves

The Fortuner has long been the face of Toyota’s dominance in India’s premium SUV market. The next-generation model, expected by late 2025 or early 2026, is set to debut with a completely new platform, hybrid powertrain, and modernized interiors.

Reports suggest it’ll feature Toyota’s TNGA-F platform (same as the Land Cruiser series) and could even bring mild-hybrid diesel tech for better fuel economy without losing that trademark punch.

5. Compact Pickup Truck: Made in Maharashtra

Toyota is also developing a compact pickup inspired by the Hilux Champ. It will be locally produced at Toyota’s new plant in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (Aurangabad district).

The idea is simple — build a smaller, more affordable work-and-play truck tailored for India’s evolving pickup market. Expect this one to arrive around 2028, possibly alongside the Land Cruiser FJ.

A Bold Decade Ahead For Toyota India

This aggressive push shows Toyota’s long-term confidence in India — not just as a sales market but as a manufacturing hub for future SUVs and EVs. Moving away from Maruti-based re-badged cars like the Glanza and Rumion, Toyota wants to stand tall with models that feel truly Toyota.

And if even half of these upcoming launches hit the mark, Indian buyers are in for a seriously exciting few years.
