Toyota’s big, bold SUVs just got a smarter, greener twist! The Fortuner and Legender now come with a 48V mild-hybrid setup — and they’ve officially landed in India. Bookings are open, prices start at ₹44.72 lakh, and deliveries kick off in the third week of June.
Meet the New Hybrid Fortuner & Legender
Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has rolled out the Neo Drive 48V mild-hybrid versions of the Fortuner and the more stylish Legender. These aren’t full hybrids, but the 48V system adds a touch of electric assistance to the familiar 2.8-litre turbo diesel engine — giving better mileage and smoother city drives without losing that rugged SUV feel.
- Fortuner Hybrid Price: ₹44.72 lakh (ex-showroom)
- Legender Hybrid Price: ₹50.09 lakh (ex-showroom)
What’s Under the Hood?
The setup pairs the tried-and-tested 2.8L four-cylinder turbo diesel engine with a belt-integrated starter generator and a compact lithium-ion battery. It’s smart enough to capture energy when you slow down, and then use it to help you accelerate more smoothly.
There’s also a start-stop function that shuts off the engine at idle to save fuel — perfect for stop-and-go city traffic. According to Toyota, this mild-hybrid tech can improve fuel efficiency by around 10%.

- Fortuner: Still tall, bold, and muscular
- Legender: Keeps its sporty edge with dual-tone paint, split LED headlamps, and sharp styling
