Volkswagen is getting ready to step back into India’s premium three-row SUV space, and this time it’s coming in strong. The all-new Volkswagen Tayron is set to launch soon, bringing sharp design, a long list of features, and a powerful turbo-petrol engine. Already unveiled for the Indian market, the Tayron will sit as a sporty, tech-loaded 7-seater aimed at buyers looking beyond the usual Fortuner–Gloster crowd.
Here’s a closer look at what the upcoming Volkswagen Tayron R-Line brings to the table.

Sporty, bold design with strong road presence
The Tayron doesn’t try to look subtle. It has that typical Volkswagen clean-yet-aggressive styling, but with extra attitude thanks to the R-Line treatment.
Up front, you get dual-LED projector headlamps and a full-width LED light bar that connects both ends, with the illuminated Volkswagen logo sitting proudly in the middle. The bumper is chunky and gets large air intakes, giving the SUV a properly sporty face.
From the side, the thin black cladding keeps things neat while the big 19-inch alloy wheels add muscle. The long body and upright stance make it clear this is a proper three-row SUV and not just a stretched crossover.
At the rear, connected LED tail-lamps, a lit VW badge, a wide black garnish, and a subtle roof spoiler complete the look. Overall, it feels premium without going over the top — very European, very classy.
Big screens, luxury touches and proper comfort
Step inside and the Tayron feels more like a tech lounge than a typical family SUV.
Volkswagen has loaded it with a 15-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which is easily among the biggest in the segment. In front of the driver sits a 10.25-inch fully digital instrument cluster that handles all the key information neatly.
Comfort is clearly a priority. The front seats are 12-way electrically adjustable and come with both ventilation and massage functions — something you usually see in much more expensive cars.
Other highlights include:
- 30-colour ambient lighting
- Matrix LED headlamps
- Panoramic sunroof
- Powered tailgate
- Augmented Reality-based Heads-Up Display (AR HUD)
- Three-zone climate control
It’s the kind of feature list that makes long highway drives feel easy and relaxed, especially for families.
Same punchy engine as Tiguan R-Line
Under the hood, the Tayron sticks with a proven setup.
It uses the same 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine seen in the Tiguan R-Line. This motor produces 204hp and 320Nm of torque, paired with a 7-speed Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT).
Performance numbers are impressive for a full-size 7-seater. Volkswagen claims a 0–100 km/h time of just 7.3 seconds, while the top speed is electronically limited to 224 km/h.
So yes, this isn’t just a big family car — it’s quick too.

What it means for Indian buyers
Volkswagen has largely stayed away from the full-size 7-seater segment in recent years. The Tayron changes that. It gives buyers a premium, performance-focused alternative to mainstream ladder-frame SUVs.
Expect it to be positioned as a more urban, comfort-oriented SUV rather than an out-and-out off-roader. Think luxury, technology, and driving fun over hardcore terrain abilities.
If priced smartly, the Tayron could attract families upgrading from compact SUVs and even buyers cross-shopping premium brands.
The official launch date and prices are expected to be announced soon.
