World Water Day 2024: Every year on March 22, World Water Day is celebrated to realize the importance of freshwater in our lives.
Water is essential for everyone’s lives. From cooking to drinking to bathing, water is a natural resource that will never be replaceable in our daily lives. Most of the water that we use for daily activities comes from groundwater. The importance of freshwater is to run our health well.

Only 2.5 percent of the water on earth is classified as fresh water. The water crisis is one of the significant issues in India, as per the Niti Aayog 2019 report. Despite accommodating 17 percent of the global population, India has only 4 percent of the planet’s freshwater resources.
How world water day came into existence?
World Water Day started in 1993 when leaders all over the nation agreed, and the United Nations General Assembly decided that a day should be remembered to create awareness about the protection and importance of fresh water in our lives. Since then, March 22 has been observed as World Water Day. From this day every year, we talk about how to protect water to help solve the global water problem.
The theme for this year is ‘Water for peace and prosperity.’ Thus, the 2024 edition of the United Nations flagship World Water Development Report (WWDR) report will explore and release this theme today. The theme of Water Water Day changes every year. Still, the main focus remains on topics relevant to sanitation, clean water, and hygiene, along with the targets of Sustainable Development Goal 6.
