X Previously Known As Twitter Down, Instead of Tweets, Platform Displays ‘Welcome to Your Timeline’ and Advertisements

Around 11 a.m. today, the microblogging service X (previously known as Twitter) had a technical outage. The website and mobile app both displayed ‘Welcome to your timeline’ instead of the normal tweets on the feed. The platform appears to be experiencing a severe outage and is unavailable to users.

Over 70,000 reports of inability to access the platform have been received by Downdetector. And, as of now, there is no information on what caused this problem. However, several users reported seeing advertisements and their own tweets on their accounts. Users may also search the site for a specific profile; again, the profile appears but not their content.

Following the downtime, several individuals took to Facebook to express their worries. “Please who uses X/twitter, seems the app is not working or someone should help me confirm,” user Samuel Oseremen Imoisili commented. “Myself and my fellow Twitter users are sticking with (returning to) Facebook.” “Because our app is down,” Tony Thee Goon, another Facebook user who posted a meme, commented.

Interestingly, Spaces – a function of the program that allows users to live stream chats – is up and running, and thousands of users are flocking there to find out what’s going on. The fact that the hashtag ‘TwitterDown’ is trending despite the outage adds to the nonsense.

This is not the first time that X has had a power outage. The Elon Musk-owned platform experienced outages in March and July of this year. In July, Downdetector revealed that X has been down over 13,000 times in the United States and the United Kingdom. Users reported seeing the notice “Sorry, you are rate limited.” Please wait a few seconds before attempting again.”

Similarly, the platform fell down for a few hours on March 6. Several users complained about being unable to use it regularly or having issues accessing links, photos, and videos. This outage affected thousands of users, and many people in various areas noticed that the website was slower than normal.
