Just days before IPL 2026 gets underway, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have confirmed a major setback. Left-arm pacer Yash Dayal will not be part of the squad this season, with the franchise citing personal reasons behind his absence.
The update comes after days of speculation among fans, especially when Dayal was missing from training sessions and even from the team’s official promotional material.
RCB Confirms Dayal’s Absence
RCB team director Mo Bobat put an end to the uncertainty, stating that the bowler is currently dealing with a personal crisis. The franchise has decided to give him space during this period, ruling him out of IPL 2026.
While the team hasn’t gone into deeper details, the timing is significant. Dayal was expected to be a key part of RCB’s pace attack this season, especially after their title-winning campaign last year.

Off-Field Controversies Add Context
Dayal’s situation off the field has been under the spotlight for months now. Back in July 2025, a case was registered against him over allegations of exploitation under the pretext of marriage.
Things escalated further when another case, reportedly under the POCSO Act, surfaced in Jaipur. He was also denied anticipatory bail earlier, adding to the seriousness of the situation.
While RCB have not directly linked these issues to his absence, the ongoing legal and personal challenges appear to have played a role in the decision.
A Blow to RCB’s Bowling Plans
From a cricketing perspective, this is a setback for RCB. Dayal had shown flashes of promise and was seen as a useful option in both powerplay and death overs.
With IPL 2026 starting on March 28, the team management will now have to rethink their bowling combination and possibly look at backup options within the squad.

Season Opener Set for March 28
RCB will begin their IPL 2026 campaign as defending champions, taking on Sunrisers Hyderabad in the opening match.
The clash will be played at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, with Rajat Patidar leading RCB and Ishan Kishan captaining SRH.
RCB will be aiming to start strong and defend their title, while Hyderabad, who finished sixth last season, will be looking to make an early statement.
