Delhi Red Fort Blast Triggers Nationwide Security Alert
A powerful explosion near Delhi’s iconic Red Fort on Sunday evening has left eight people dead and at least 24 injured, prompting a nationwide security alert. The blast, which occurred inside a slow-moving car near the busy Red Fort traffic signal around 6:52 pm, sent shockwaves through the capital and beyond.

Mumbai, UP, and Rajasthan Step Up Vigil
In the aftermath, Mumbai Police have been placed on high alert. Security agency sources told NDTV that forces are ramping up deployment at critical locations, including railway stations, airports, and key landmarks.
Similarly, all districts in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand have been directed to increase patrols and check posts. The Lucknow police headquarters issued a statewide directive urging officers to step up vigilance in sensitive zones and busy markets.
Security has also been heightened along the Indo-Nepal border, where Border Security Force (BSF) units and local police are screening vehicles and monitoring cross-border movement more closely.
Rajasthan Tightens Checks at Borders
Rajasthan’s Director General of Police, Rajiv Sharma, has instructed all range IGs and district superintendents to remain on high alert. Vehicles entering from other states are being thoroughly checked, especially in border districts.
Officials said all sensitive areas — including major bus stands, railway stations, and tourist spots — are under enhanced surveillance. “We are not taking any chances,” a senior Rajasthan police officer said.
What Happened at Red Fort?
Delhi Police Commissioner confirmed that the explosion took place in a car that was stopped at a red light near the monument. The exact cause is still under investigation, but early reports suggest a high-intensity explosive device could have been used.
The anti-terror squad and Delhi Police Special Cell are on-site, scanning CCTV footage and collecting evidence. Forensic teams are analyzing the remains of the vehicle to identify the materials used in the blast.
Hospital officials at Lok Nayak Hospital confirmed the death toll, adding that several of the injured are in critical condition.
