Strong box office run fuels OTT excitement

Before making its digital debut, Eko enjoyed a solid theatrical run. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film earned over ₹45 crore in 21 days, a big number considering its reported budget of around ₹5 crore.

The Kerala Film Producers’ Association has officially classified the film as a hit, though online debates continue, with many calling it a superhit given its returns.

    What the film is about

At its core, Eko follows the search for a mysterious man named Kuriachan, played by Saurabh Sachdeva. As multiple characters hunt for him, the story slowly peels back layers of his past, revealing secrets that make the mission far more complicated than it first appears.

The cast includes Biana Momin, Vineeth, Binu Pappu, Narain, Ashokan, and Renjit Shekar, each adding depth to the tense, character-driven narrative.

Visuals, themes, and the ‘Animal Trilogy’ link

Shot across misty hill stations, Eko has been praised for its immersive visuals and mood-driven storytelling. Beyond the mystery, the film explores themes like loyalty, patriarchy, protection versus control, and moral ambiguity.

Interestingly, Eko is the third entry in Bahul Ramesh’s unofficial ‘Animal Trilogy’, following Kishkindha Kaandam and Kerala Crime Season 2. True to the theme, dogs play a key role in the narrative, not just symbolically but also in moving the plot forward.

    A familiar creative team returns

The film reunites director Dinjith Ayyathan with his Kishkindha Kaandam collaborators. The technical crew includes composer Mujeeb Majeed, editor Sooraj ES, and art director Sajeesh Thamarassery, helping maintain a consistent, grounded visual and emotional tone.

Produced by MRK Jhayaram under Aaradyaa Studios, Eko hit theatres on November 21, clashing with Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Vilaayath Budha—and still managed to hold its own.

With strong word-of-mouth and a proven box office run, Eko’s Netflix release could give the film a whole new life among OTT audiences heading into the new year.
