Tensions are running high in Mira-Bhayandar as a Marathi pride rally led by MNS and Thackeray-led Shiv Sena turned controversial. With key party leaders detained before sunrise, the political heat just hit boiling point. Minister Pratap Sarnaik has now openly criticized the police, calling their actions “biased and unacceptable.”
What’s Going On in Mira-Bhayandar?
Today’s Marathi Morcha — organized jointly by MNS (Maharashtra Navnirman Sena) and the Thackeray faction of Shiv Sena — was meant to be a peaceful demonstration from Balaji Hotel to Mira Road Station, raising voices for Marathi language and identity.
But even before the rally could begin, drama unfolded overnight.
MNS Leaders Detained at 3 AM!
In a late-night crackdown, Mira-Bhayandar police took several MNS leaders into custody around 3:30 AM. Among those picked up were:
- Avinash Jadhav, MNS district president
- Jayendra Patil, Palghar Lok Sabha president
- Prafull Patil, ex-corporator and city secretary
- Rakesh Vaiti, Vasai city organizer
- Praveen Bhoir, city president
- And several others from Nalasopara, Virar, and Vasai areas
They were reportedly taken from their homes and detained across multiple police stations including Nalasopara, Virar, Naigaon, and Waliv.

Pratap Sarnaik Lashes Out at Police
Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) minister Pratap Sarnaik didn’t mince words. He slammed the police for acting unfairly and said:
“Police shouldn’t work for just one political party. I’ve spoken to the Police Commissioner and expressed my disappointment.”
He added that there were no official orders from the Home Ministry, yet the detentions happened. “Who gave those instructions? We’re looking into it,” Sarnaik said.
“Why Target Marathi Morcha Only?”
Calling out the double standards, Sarnaik questioned:
“Businessmen are allowed to hold rallies. Why not the Marathi Ekikaran Samiti? Why were we stopped?”
He hinted that the MahaYuti government (Shiv Sena-BJP) may have to answer for this suppression. Sarnaik also mentioned that he plans to speak with CM Devendra Fadnavis and Dy CM Eknath Shinde directly.
