After nearly four years away from the Indian market, the Renault Duster is ready for a comeback. The new-generation Duster is scheduled to launch in India on January 26, 2026, bringing back one of the country’s most recognisable mid-size SUV nameplates with a sharper design, modern tech, and electrified powertrain options.
First launched in India in 2012, the Duster played a key role in popularising the compact SUV segment before it was discontinued in 2022. With the 2026 model, Renault is aiming to reclaim lost ground in a far more competitive SUV space.
Familiar yet tougher design
Recent spy shots of the India-bound test mule suggest that the 2026 Renault Duster will stay close to the global model’s rugged styling. Up front, the SUV is expected to feature sleek LED daytime running lamps paired with LED headlights, a chunky bumper, and a blacked-out grille with rectangular elements that give it a muscular stance.

The side profile looks boxy and purposeful, highlighted by squared-off wheel arches, thick body cladding, and Y-shaped 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels. At the rear, Y-shaped LED tail-lamps, prominent roof rails, and a near-identical silhouette to the international version complete the tough SUV look.
Tech-heavy cabin with triple screens
Inside, the new Duster is expected to take a big leap over the outgoing model. Test mules spotted during trials hint at a three-screen layout, which could include a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 7-inch co-passenger display, and a fully digital instrument cluster for the driver.
Feature highlights are likely to include dual-zone climate control, wireless phone charging, a panoramic sunroof, connected car tech, and a 4×4 drivetrain option on select variants. Renault is also expected to offer Level 2 ADAS, bringing features such as adaptive cruise control and lane assist to the Duster for the first time in India.
Hybrid power expected under the hood
Renault has not officially confirmed engine details yet, but the 2026 Duster is widely expected to come with hybrid powertrain options. This could include a turbo-petrol hybrid setup, paired with both manual and automatic transmission choices.

Given tightening emission norms and rising fuel costs, a strong hybrid option could be a major draw for Indian buyers looking for better efficiency without compromising on performance.
Why this launch matters
The mid-size SUV segment in India has evolved rapidly since the Duster exited the market. With rivals offering advanced safety tech, connected features, and electrified engines, the 2026 Renault Duster will need to deliver on all fronts. If priced competitively, it could once again become a strong contender in a segment it once helped define.
