A British teen’s passing brought attention to the restaurant on Goa’s renowned Anjuna beach. It’s the same beach – Haryana BJP leader Sonali Phogat had gone to before returning to her hotel and expressing unease.
Overview of Incident
Sonali Phogat,42 yrs – had eaten at “Curlies” restaurant on Monday night. This happened just a day before being taken from her hotel. On August 23 in the morning, she was pronounced dead and sent to St Anthony Hospital in Anjuna, North Goa.

Similar incident at “Curlies” 14 years back
During the 2008 inquiry into the murder of British adolescent Scarlett Eden Keeling, the eatery made headlines.
Keeling’s mother later claimed that her daughter mentioned seeing “Curlies” shortly before arriving at the location. The same location where she was sexually raped and abandoned on the beach.
According to the evidence on file, advocate Vikram Varma, a lawyer for the deceased’s mother, Fiona Mackeown stated. Scarlett Keeling looked to have been transported to Curlies before arriving at the Lui’s Shack, where she ultimately passed away.
Relation with the past incident
She “may have already been inebriated with deadly substances before coming to Lui’s Shack,” the evidence also showed, according to him. Following Sonali Phogat’s passing, the eatery is once more making headlines. Sonali was a famous TikTok user who was from Hisar, Haryana. However, TikTok services is currently prohibited in India.
Mohinder Phogat’s Statement
He stated, “She was informed they wanted to see a man from Haryana who works in Curlies. Sonali Phogat, according to Mohinder Phogat, went directly from Curlies to her hotel room before being transported to the hospital the following morning.

He said that the 42-year-old Haryana lawmaker had shown unease upon his arrival at the hotel.
Curlies owner”s statement
When contacted, Edwin Nunes, the proprietor of Curlies, verified that Sonali Phogat had visited his establishment with others. Nobody on our crew had heard of them. For us, they were just regular clients, “he added. In relation to Sonali Phogat’s attendance in his restaurant following her passing, Nunes said he was questioned by the Goa police.
He said, “I’ve informed the police that they were just like any other client to us.”
Sonali Phogat and her associates, Sudhir Sagwan and Sukhwinder Wasi, arrived in Goa on August 22. The Goa Police filed a murder complaint against the two friends on Thursday after learning that Sonali Phogat’s body had “many blunt force injuries,” according to the post-mortem report.
