Residents across several parts of Thane should brace for phased water supply disruptions over the next 12 days, starting January 27, 2026. The cuts will be implemented area-wise and will last for 24 hours at a stretch, the Thane Municipal Corporation said on Friday.
The temporary disruption is linked to repair work on the Pneumatic Gate System at the Bhatsa river barrage in Pise. The barrage supplies water to both Thane and Mumbai, and the repairs are being carried out by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation.
Why water supply is being cut
Officials said the maintenance work is aimed at improving water storage levels in the Bhatsa River. During the repair period, the water level at the Pise pumping station has been lowered, leading to a 20 per cent reduction in water supplied to Thane.
