Toyota is getting ready to step into India’s mainstream EV space in a big way. The company has officially unveiled the all-electric Toyota Ebella, a rebadged version of the Maruti Suzuki E Vitara, and its launch now appears just around the corner. With a claimed range of 543km, a 61kWh battery pack and a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) option, this new electric SUV could shake up the mid-size EV segment.
Here’s a closer look at what the upcoming Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella brings to the table.
Sharp, Modern Design with EV Identity
At first glance, the Ebella looks clean and futuristic, but not over-the-top. Up front, it gets swept-back headlights with eyebrow-style LED DRLs connected by a light bar. The closed blacked-out grille instantly signals that this is an EV. The bumper is sculpted, with air intakes placed lower down for a sportier look.
From the side, the SUV looks very similar to the E Vitara. It rides on 18-inch aerodynamic alloy wheels and gets thick body cladding that runs across the length of the vehicle. The blacked-out ORVMs with integrated LED turn indicators add a nice contrast.
At the rear, the connected LED tail lamps give it a premium touch. You also get a shark-fin antenna, rear wiper and a subtle roof spoiler with an integrated stop lamp. Overall, the design feels balanced — modern but still practical.
Feature-Loaded Cabin
Inside, Toyota hasn’t cut corners. The Ebella comes with a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system paired with a 10.21-inch fully digital instrument cluster. The layout is clean and tech-focused without feeling cluttered.
Other key highlights include:
- Automatic climate control
- Sunroof
- Electronic parking brake with auto-hold
- Powered driver’s seat
- JBL premium sound system
- USB Type-C charging ports
These are features buyers now expect in this segment, and Toyota seems to have ticked most of the boxes.
Battery, Power and Real-World Range
The Urban Cruiser Ebella is powered by a 61kWh battery pack. The electric motor produces 173hp and 192Nm of torque, which should be more than adequate for daily city drives and highway cruising.
Toyota claims a driving range of up to 543km on a full charge. While real-world numbers may vary depending on driving style and conditions, even a practical range above 450km would make it a strong contender in its class.
The company is offering an 8-year battery warranty, which adds peace of mind for long-term buyers. Interestingly, Toyota will also introduce a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) subscription model. This could lower the upfront cost of the SUV, allowing customers to pay separately for battery usage.

Service Network and Ownership Experience
Toyota says the Ebella will be supported by around 500 service touchpoints across India. That’s a big plus, especially for EV buyers who are still concerned about after-sales support and battery-related issues.
With Toyota’s reputation for reliability and the growing EV infrastructure in India, the brand is clearly aiming to make the ownership experience smooth and hassle-free.
What It Means for the EV Market
India’s electric SUV space is heating up fast. With the Ebella, Toyota is entering the volume EV segment rather than staying niche. By combining a long claimed range, familiar design and flexible ownership options like BaaS, the company is trying to make EV adoption feel less intimidating.
Pricing details are yet to be announced, but expectations are that Toyota will position it competitively against other mid-size electric SUVs in the market.
If priced right, the Toyota Ebella could become one of the most practical long-range electric SUVs for Indian families looking to make the shift from petrol or diesel.
