West Indies have locked in their 15-man squad for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, going with a familiar core while backing a few fresh faces. The biggest talking point: experienced opener Evin Lewis and pace spearhead Alzarri Joseph have both been ruled out due to injury concerns. The Caribbean side will begin their campaign against Scotland on February 7 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
A balanced squad with a few new bets
Selectors have largely stuck with proven names but added a touch of youth, most notably 25-year-old Guyanese batter Quentin Sampson. The right-hander earns his maiden World Cup call-up after a solid Caribbean Premier League season, where he scored 241 runs in nine innings at a healthy strike rate of 151.57 for Guyana Amazon Warriors.

Sampson recently made his international debut against Afghanistan in Dubai. While the numbers were modest, the management appears convinced by his temperament and CPL form.
Senior players return to the mix
Several experienced campaigners are back after missing the Afghanistan series. Roston Chase, Akeal Hosein and Sherfane Rutherford return, along with Jason Holder, Rovman Powell and Romario Shepherd, who were rested earlier. Shai Hope continues as captain, leading a group that includes 11 players from West Indies’ home World Cup squad two years ago.
Pace and spin options look settled
The fast-bowling unit will be led by Holder and Shamar Joseph, with support from Jayden Seales and Matthew Forde. Joseph’s inclusion is notable after an injury-hit spell in late 2025, which saw him miss tours of India and Bangladesh. On the spin front, Akeal Hosein remains the main weapon, backed by Roston Chase and Gudakesh Motie.
Tough group, familiar venue
West Indies are placed in Group C alongside England, Scotland, Nepal and Italy. They open against Scotland on February 7 at Eden Gardens — a venue that holds good memories for the team, having won their last T20 World Cup title there.
