Yamaha MT-03 & R3 Get Cheaper by ₹20,000 After GST Cuts – Should You Buy Now?

Yamaha Makes Its Sporty Twins More Affordable

The R3 now costs ₹3.39 lakh (down from ₹3.60 lakh), while the MT-03 is priced at ₹3.30 lakh (down from ₹3.50 lakh). All prices are ex-showroom.

And this isn’t the first cut—the twins have already seen a massive correction earlier this year, making them much more approachable than their original ₹4.6 lakh+ price tags when launched in late 2023.

Why The Price Cut Matters

When Yamaha first brought the R3 and MT-03 as CBUs, they felt way too expensive compared to rivals like KTM 390 Duke and Aprilia RS 457. But with the GST update putting 321cc bikes under the 350cc tax slab, Yamaha now has room to price them more aggressively.

This means you’re getting a refined twin-cylinder setup with Yamaha’s reliability at a price that suddenly feels like much better value.

Specs in a Nutshell

Both bikes share the same heart: a 321cc parallel-twin, liquid-cooled engine pumping out 41.4 bhp and 29.6 Nm, paired with a slick 6-speed gearbox.

Key highlights include:

  • USD front forks & rear monoshock
  • Dual-channel ABS with disc brakes
  • Digital instrument cluster (no Bluetooth, though)
  • Tried-and-tested Yamaha refinement

If you’re after smooth power delivery and an engaging ride, these bikes deliver in spades.

Should You Wait for the Updated Models?

Here’s the catch: globally, Yamaha has already launched the updated versions of both the R3 and MT-03 with fresh styling and added features. Those are yet to hit Indian shores.

So, if looks and the latest gadgets matter to you, waiting might make sense—but expect the updated models to be pricier.

But if what you want is a sorted, mechanically reliable, twin-cylinder Yamaha without breaking the bank, this is probably the best time to buy.

Final Word

The Yamaha R3 and MT-03 may not be brand-new globally, but with the ₹20,000 GST-driven price cut, they suddenly make a lot more sense in India. Smooth engine, great reliability, and now—more affordable pricing.

For enthusiasts who’ve been on the fence, this might just be the nudge needed to bring one home.
