Alia speaks on north vs south debate.
Since the beginning of the year, Hindi films have received limited attention. There has been a North vs. South argument since certain regional Hindi films are doing better at the box office than popular Hindi movies.
Alia Bhatt, an actor and producer, chimed in on the discussion and said that generally, this has been a “difficult year” for Indian film. She starred in Gangubai Kathiyawadi and was a part of SS Rajamouli’s RRR.
“Good content is always valued”,she stated. She stated current state of cinema is difficult since the film business is still recuperating from the losses sustained during the epidemic while asserting that “a good picture will always perform well.” She also mentioned that the individuals working in the film industry are reflecting a lot.
Alia stated to “The Express Adda”
It’s been a difficult year for Indian cinema, Alia stated on Monday during the Express Adda while speaking with The Indian Express Executive Director Anant Goenka and Shubhra Gupta, the newspaper’s film critic. Hindi movies need a bit more courtesy from us.

But do we count this year’s box office hits? Even in the southern region, their movies have not been commercially successful. The current perspective on movies is unfavourable since the pandemic is about to come to an end. Analysis has been done to identify which films would perform well both globally and in theatres because theatres have been shuttered for more than two years.

Good content will always be successful, but right now we are re-evaluating which movies we will release in theatres, which movies we will release straight on an OTT platform, and what is the typical consumer behaviour. Therefore, we are just now getting that. However, it does not signal the end of Hindi films. This isn’t going to happen, Alia said.
Alia Bhatt’s debut production “Darlings” is set to release. Shah Rukh Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment and Alia’s production company Eternal Sunshine are working together to co-produce the film. The movie, featuring Shefali Shah and Vijay Varma, will be available on Netflix starting on August 5.
