Prominent social media influencer Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan were imprisoned in Romania on Monday. On Tuesday, they were detained on UK sex offense accusations.
Officers from the nation’s Criminal Investigation Service and officers from the town of Voluntari “carried out two European arrest warrants issued by the UK judicial authorities for the commission of sexual offenses and the exploitation of persons on the territory of Great Britain,” according to a statement.
The two individuals were taken to the public prosecutor of the Bucharest Court of Appeal. Their Tate brothers were imposed 24-hour custody at Bucharest Police Headquarters.
Mateea Petrescu, Tate’s spokesman, said in a statement Tuesday: “This baffling recovery of decade-old allegations has left the Tate brothers saddened and very worried.
Petrescu said, “They categorically reject all charges and express profound disappointment. He further added they say that such serious allegations are being resurrected without substantial new evidence.
What Andrew Tate said in the hearing?
According to a reporter from CNN’s affiliate, who attended a hearing at the Bucharest Court of Appeals on Tuesday, the Tate brothers stated they do not want to be sent to the United Kingdom.
“When I was falsely accused for the first time years ago, I didn’t understand how my life could be destroyed so much,” Andrew Tate said to the judge, as reported by Antena 3.
Tate and his brother suffered three months in police jail in Bucharest last year before being put on house arrest. Their they awaited a criminal investigation into allegations of misconduct against seven women, which they deny.
They got away in August and were placed under judicial supervision. This was with a prohibition on leaving the Municipality of Bucharest and Ilfov County without previous court consent.
The two are facing trial in the nation on separate allegations. This includes human trafficking, rape, and organizing a criminal organization to exploit women sexually.
