    A cab driver who took a passenger from Chembur to Diva in Thane on Monday night time via heavy downpour was in for a nightmare. Not only did he take three-and-a-1/2 hours to reach his destination however additionally he drove directly into Phadke Pada lake which was swollen because of heavy rain and the water flowing on the road, making it invisible to motorists. 

    Luck was, however, at the side of the driver, Yusuf Pathan, 28, as he was pulled out of the sinking automobile in time by the locals who noticed the auto falling into the lake. Getting the car out of the 8-to-ten ft deep lake, though, was a Herculean challenge for the locals and the fire brigade officials. 

    Pathan works with Raza companies as a driver and was tasked with riding one of the customers to Diva. Pathan, whose cell phone was broken and spoke over a landline, stated, “I was new to the place and used the map to find my way home. It was raining closely and the street connecting Shil Phata was waterlogged. I ought to see farmland on the right side of the road going in the direction of Thane. 

    However, there has been only water on the left side. I was unaware that there has been a lake there.” He stated that once he attempted to move a bit towards the left, he lost control of his automobile as it fell into the lake. “I attempted to reverse however it was merely sinking and I started calling for help. I opened the windows however was now no longer capable of getting out. Some locals got here and pulled me out. I still don’t consider that I survived. The automobile, however, sank to the lowest of the lake.” 

    Hemant Patil, 39, a villager of Khardi was driving intently behind him and noticed that his car was drowning. He told Hira Patil, the previous NCP Corporator from the area who resided simply 100m from the lake. Both of them gathered youngsters from the village and rushed to the spot. 

    Patil stated, “I was greatly surprised to see the auto sinking withinside the lake. When it was nearly feet in, we reached and pulled the driver. His phone and wallet have been in the automobile. However, we couldn’t retrieve it before the auto sank. Moreover, it was raining and there has been no light. We all began out the headlights of our automobiles to make sure that we could see the lake and a part of the road.     Locals stated that they’d, again and again, demanded barricades along the lake. However, the demand was by no means met. The locals failed to drag the auto after which called the fire officials. Fire officer, Swapnil Sarnobat, stated, “The automobile was caught 8 to 10 ft deep in the lake. The driver might now no longer have survived had the locals not helped him. 

    The doorways have been jammed. We tied a rope to our rescue automobile and 7 of our rescuers entered the water and tied the ropes to the auto. We pulled it out with a rope. It took us one-and-a-1/2 hours because of heavy rain. However, we controlled to remove it.”
