Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G vs Pro Max 5G: Display, Camera, Performance and Battery Compared

Redmi is preparing to bring its latest Note 17 series to India, and two models are already attracting attention: the Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G and Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G. Both phones focus on premium design, large AMOLED displays, Snapdragon processors and big silicon-carbon batteries, but the Pro Max gets several meaningful upgrades.

The two smartphones were launched in select markets on August 27, 2026. However, Redmi has not yet confirmed their India launch date or pricing. Here’s a closer look at how the Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G compares with the higher-end Pro Max model.

Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G vs Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G: Design

At first glance, the Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G and Note 17 Pro Max 5G follow a similar design language. Both feature a flat display, rounded corners and a vertically arranged dual-camera module on the rear.

The Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G comes with a plastic frame and plastic rear panel, while the front is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2. The phone gets a silky matte finish aimed at giving it a more premium look and feel.

The Pro Max follows a similar approach, with a plastic frame and rear panel and Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection on the front. Both models also carry IP68/IP69K ratings for dust and water resistance.

So, there isn’t a huge difference in the overall design. The Pro Max is more about upgraded internal hardware and select feature improvements than a completely different look.

Display: Same Size, Pro Max Gets Extra Features

Both smartphones feature a large 6.83-inch AMOLED display with 1.5K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. The screens also support a 240Hz touch sampling rate, which should make scrolling and touch response feel smoother.

The Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G additionally offers 68-billion colours and up to 3,500 nits of peak brightness.

The Note 17 Pro Max, meanwhile, adds HDR10+ and Dolby Vision certification along with DCI-P3 colour gamut support. These additions could make a noticeable difference when watching compatible movies and TV shows.

For everyday use, both displays should be more than capable. However, the Pro Max has the edge for users who care more about HDR content and media consumption.

Performance and Memory

This is one of the biggest differences between the two models.

The Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 6S Gen 4, a 4nm chipset. It uses four Cortex-A78 cores clocked at up to 2.4GHz and four Cortex-A55 cores at up to 1.8GHz.

The higher-end Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G gets the Snapdragon 6 Gen 5. Its four Cortex-A78 cores can reach 2.6GHz, while the four Cortex-A55 cores are clocked at up to 2.0GHz.

Based on the benchmark figures provided, the Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 has a performance advantage over the Snapdragon 6S Gen 4. However, benchmark scores should not be treated as a direct guarantee of real-world performance, as software optimisation, thermals and storage speeds also matter.

Memory is another area where the Pro Max pulls ahead. The Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G offers up to 12GB LPDDR4X RAM, while the Pro Max moves to faster LPDDR5X RAM.

Storage options also vary. The Note 17 Pro offers up to 512GB, with higher-capacity versions using UFS 3.1 storage. The Pro Max goes up to 512GB, with higher-end variants using faster UFS 4.1 storage.

For heavy multitasking, gaming and long-term use, the Pro Max therefore looks like the stronger option on paper.

Camera Comparison

The Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G features a dual-camera setup at the rear, led by a 50MP primary sensor with an f/1.8 aperture and optical image stabilisation (OIS). It is paired with an 8MP ultra-wide camera offering a 120-degree field of view.

For selfies and video calls, the phone has a 16MP front camera with an f/2.4 aperture.

The Pro Max retains the 50MP main and 8MP ultra-wide combination but upgrades the primary lens to a wider f/1.5 aperture. In theory, the wider aperture can help the camera capture more light, particularly in darker scenes.

The front camera also gets a substantial upgrade, moving to 32MP with an f/2.2 aperture.

On paper, the Pro Max is clearly the more camera-focused model, although image quality will ultimately depend on Xiaomi’s processing and the final retail software.

Battery and Charging

Battery life could be one of the biggest selling points of this generation.

The Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G packs an 8,340mAh silicon-carbon battery and supports 67W HyperCharge wired charging. It also supports 22.5W reverse wired charging.

The Pro Max goes considerably further with a massive 10,000mAh silicon-carbon battery and 100W HyperCharge support. It also offers 27W wired reverse charging.

Both models include Xiaomi’s Surge G1 battery management chip, which is designed to help with battery management and temperature control.

If battery endurance and faster charging are high on your priority list, the Pro Max has a pretty obvious advantage here.

Software and Updates

Both Redmi Note 17 Pro models are expected to run HyperOS 3 based on Android 16.

The company is also promising five years of major OS upgrades and six years of security updates. If this commitment applies to the Indian variants as well, both phones could receive software support into 2032.

The devices also include Google Gemini-related AI features and tools such as AI Erase Pro, AI Glare Removal, AI Image Expansion, AI Sky, AI Bokeh, AI Image Enhancement, AI Beautify and Circle to Search.

This gives the Note 17 series a stronger software and AI package compared with many conventional mid-range smartphones.

Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G vs Pro Max 5G: Key Differences

The Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G and Note 17 Pro Max 5G share the same basic formula, but the Pro Max upgrades several important components.

The Pro Max gets the Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 instead of the Snapdragon 6S Gen 4, LPDDR5X RAM instead of LPDDR4X, faster UFS 4.1 storage on higher variants, a 32MP selfie camera instead of 16MP, a wider f/1.5 primary camera lens, a 10,000mAh battery instead of 8,340mAh and 100W charging instead of 67W.

It also adds HDR10+ and Dolby Vision support for the display.

Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G vs Pro Max 5G: India Price

Redmi has not yet announced the India prices of the Note 17 Pro 5G and Note 17 Pro Max 5G.

The standard Redmi Note 17 Pro has reportedly started at Rs 27,999 in the market where it was launched. Based on that positioning, the Indian prices of the Pro and Pro Max could move above the Rs 30,000 mark, although this remains speculation until Redmi officially confirms the pricing.

Redmi is currently preparing to launch the Redmi 17 5G in India on September 3, 2026. The company could reveal more details about the Note 17 lineup around its India rollout, but there is no official confirmation yet.

Redmi Note 17 Pro vs Pro Max: Which One Makes More Sense?

The Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G could make more sense for buyers who want a large AMOLED display, capable Snapdragon performance, OIS camera hardware and a big battery without paying extra for the top-end configuration.

The Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G, on the other hand, is aimed at users who want more of everything. Its Snapdragon 6 Gen 5 chip, faster memory and storage, 32MP selfie camera, 10,000mAh battery, 100W charging and upgraded display features make it the more feature-packed phone.

The final verdict, however, will depend heavily on Indian pricing. If the price gap is relatively small, the Pro Max could offer better overall value. If Redmi keeps a significant gap between the two models, the standard Pro may be the more sensible choice for most users.

For now, the Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G and Redmi Note 17 Pro Max 5G remain awaiting their official India launch details. Redmi’s pricing, availability and India-specific specifications will be the key pieces of the puzzle before buyers can make a final decision.
