Mayers and Virat were seen strolling side by side for a few meters after the game. Mayers questioned Kohli about why he was continually insulting them, and Virat, in turn, questioned why he (Mayers) was staring at him. Previously, (Amit) Mishra had complained to the umpire about Virat constantly abusing No. 10 batter Naveen (ul-Haq).

When Virat made a remark, Gautam pulled Mayers aside and told him not to engage in conversation. According to an eyewitness, the heated debate that ensued appeared a little childish.

‘Kya bol raha hain bol’ (What were you saying?) Gautam inquired. ‘Maine aapko kuch bola hi naahin, aap kyon ghus rahein hai’ (Why are you coming in between when I haven’t told you anything), Virat answered.

‘Tuney agar mere player ko bola hai, matlab tune meri family ko gaali diya hai,’ Gautam answered. (You abused my player, which is like assaulting my family), to which Virat said, ‘Toh aap apne family ko sambhal ke rakhiye’. (You then look after your family).

Before they were separated, Gambhir said, ‘Toh ab tu mujhe sikhayega…’ (I guess I’ll have to learn from you…).

Heavy Fines for Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir

Meanwhile, the IPL took harsh action against Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli for violating the code of conduct, fining them 100% of their match fees. Naveen ul Haq, who also had a confrontation with Virat Kohli, was fined 25% of the match cost.
