Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti 2024: Significance

Guru Gobind Singh Ji was born in Patna, Bihar, on December 22, 1666, referring to the Julian calendar. The Julian calendar is no longer in use and considered out of date. Aurangzeb murdered Guru Tegh Bahadur, the father of Guru Gobind Singh. Guru Gobind Singh’s mother was named Mata Gujri. Aurangzeb assassinated his father, Guru Tegh Bahadur, in 1675 because he refused to convert to Islam. Gobind Singh, just nine years old, was declared the tenth Guru of the Sikhs on Baisakhi in 1676.

Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti 2024: History

Guru Gobind Singh was born at the Takhat Shri Harimander Ji Patna Sahib, which is still there today. His family returned to Punjab around 1670. In March 1672, his family moved to Chak Nanaki, located in the Shivalik Hills of the Himalayas. Chak Nanaki received his schooling at what is today known as Anandpur Sahib. He learned military techniques, Sanskrit, and Persian to become a warrior.

Later, Guru Gobind Singh Ji established the Khalsa Panth. Khalsa followed a strict spiritual regimen under Guru Gobind Singh’s careful eye. Individuals heroically fought against the Mughal monarchs. Guru Gobind Singh ji was a superb poet and writer who created a wide range of literary works. Prior to his death in 1708, he designated the Guru Granth Sahib to be the permanent Sikh Guru; the Guru Granth Sahib ji is regarded a sacred document by Sikhs.

Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti is celebrated anywhere there is a Sikh community. This day is observed by everyone, not only Sikhs, by visiting Gurudwaras and sharing his teachings with others. People greet each other with greetings. Give langars to everyone. Every Gurudwara is decorated with candles and lights. Some locales also have anecdotes about Guru Nanak Vani.

Guru Gobind Singh Ji composed the famed khalsa Vani “Waheguru Ji Ka Khalsa, Waheguru Ji Ki Fateh”.
