Dussehra in 2023! The nine-day Navratri festival concludes on Vijayadashami, or the tenth day. According to the Hindu calendar, Dussehra commemorates Lord Ram’s triumph over the wicked monarch Ravana.
Today, people around the country burn massive effigies of the demon king Ravana to commemorate the triumph of virtue over evil. This year, Dussehra falls on Tuesday, October 24.
Dasara, also known as Vijayadashami, celebrates the completion of the five-day Durga Puja celebrations. Vijayadashami is said to commemorate Goddess Durga’s victory over the buffalo monster Mahishasura. People immerse goddess Durga, Saraswati, Laxmi, Kartik, and Ganesh idols in sources of water.
