Indian Army Day 2024: Date, History, Theme, and Significance

The Indian Army is a group of front-line fighters who risk their lives fighting at the country’s frontiers to protect it from enemy attacks. Every year on January 15th, Indian Army Day is observed. This year marks the 76th annual Army Day. This day commemorates the Indian Army’s victory over the British Army. On January 15, 1949, Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa became the Indian Army’s first Commander-in-Chief, succeeding British Commander-in-Chief General Francis Butcher. Indian Army Day will be marked this year in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. On Army Day, authorities will stage a parade in front of higher dignitaries, with the Indian Army Chief taking the salute.

This year’s salute will be taken by General Manoj Pandey, the incumbent Bhartiya Sena Commander-in-Chief. Every year, the Parade was conducted at the Cariappa Parade Ground in Delhi Cantonment. However, this year’s celebration takes place outside of the country’s capital, allowing more people to participate and be inspired by the Army personnel’s contributions. Another argument for picking Lucknow to commemorate Army Day 2024 is the city’s strong military history. Army Day also acts as a motivation to increase patriotism among the nation’s young. The Indian Army is the world’s fourth strongest military, after only the United States, Russia, and China.
