The Indian sports calendar is jam-packed with athletic events in the next week. The World Wrestling Championships 2023 are set to begin this week and will provide quota spots for the Paris Olympics. Saurabh Chaudhary has rejoined the Indian squad for the Shooting World Cup after a brief absence.

Athletics

Ahead of the Asian Games, a number of high-profile athletes, including Amlan Borgohain, Kishore Kumar Jena, and the men’s 4x400m squad, have committed to compete. The competition will take place over two days in Chandigarh.

Badminton

Following the conclusion of the China Open, the BWF Hong Kong Open is set for the following week and will be the final BWF World Tour competition in the Asian leg. Last week, the Indian shuttlers performed poorly, with none of the players going to the second round.

However, this time around, a few prominent players have elected to skip the tour in order to focus on the Asian Games preparations. In the men’s singles, Lakshya Sen will be the top Indian seed.

The Indian basketball team advanced to the FIBA U-16 Asian Championships after beating Sri Lanka in the SABA U-16 qualifiers. The young Cagers are in the same group as Australia, Lebanon, and Sri Lanka. In addition, the competition acts as a qualifier for the FIBA Under-17 Basketball World Cup 2024.

Cricket

The Asia Cup group stages concluded with India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh advancing to the Super Four stage. The teams will face off once in the Super Four, with the top two teams advancing to the grand championship.

The Indian U-23 men’s squad began their qualification campaign with a 1-2 loss against hosts China. With the departure of the Maldives, India will play their last league stage game against the UAE. Shooting
