If you’re an Airtel user relying on budget-friendly prepaid plans, here’s some disappointing news. After Jio, Airtel has also made major changes to its affordable prepaid packs. The telecom giant has not only discontinued the ₹249 plan but also reduced data benefits in the popular ₹299 plan.
Airtel’s ₹299 Plan: What’s New?
Earlier, Airtel’s ₹299 plan was a fan favorite since it offered 1.5GB data per day, adding up to 42GB over 28 days.
But now, things have changed. Airtel has cut down the benefits, and the pack now offers just 1GB data per day, which means only 28GB for 28 days.
Other benefits remain the same: unlimited calls (local, STD, and roaming), 100 SMS per day, and free Hellotunes. But clearly, heavy data users are the ones losing out here.

Airtel’s ₹249 Plan—Gone for Good
Adding to the blow, Airtel has completely discontinued its most affordable ₹249 prepaid plan.
This plan offered 1.5GB/day data, unlimited calls, and 100 SMS per day with a validity of 24 days. It was a go-to choice for budget-conscious users, but now it’s off the table.
With this move, the cheapest option available is the ₹299 plan—already reduced in benefits.

Why Are Telecom Companies Doing This?
Jio had already increased the prices of its cheaper plans recently. Now Airtel has followed suit. The reason is simple: rising operational costs and heavy investment in 5G infrastructure.
Bottom line: Airtel prepaid users will now have to spend more for less. ₹299 now gets you only 1GB/day data, while the ₹249 plan is history
