The landing operations will be broadcast live on August 23 at 5:20 p.m., according to Isro’s X (previously Twitter) handle.
The countdown to the touchdown of the Vikram lander on the Moon’s surface began when it made formal contact with the Chandrayaan-2 orbiter.
On August 19, 2023, the space agency also released photographs of the moon obtained by the Lander Position Detection Camera (LPDC) at an altitude of around 70 km.
According to NASA, the Lander Module’s location (latitude and longitude) is determined by comparing LPDC pictures to an onboard moon reference map.
An Isro scientist previously stated that if conditions are not good for the spacecraft to land on the Moon, the soft landing of Chandrayaan-3 might be pushed back to August 27.
According to Nilesh M Desai, Director, Space Applications Centre-Isro, Ahmedabad, the mooncraft will land on August 23 as planned.
“On August 23, two hours prior to Chandrayaan-3 lands on the Moon, we will make the decision whether or not to land it at that time, depending on the health of the lander module and the conditions on the Moon.” If none of the circumstances appear to be in our favor, we are going to land the module on the Moon on August 27. “There should be no issues, and we expect to land the module on August 23,” he told ANI.
