Indian Railways Announces 122 Puja Special Trains for Festive Rush
With Diwali and Chhath just around the corner, Indian Railways has rolled out a major travel plan to manage the festive crowd. The North Eastern Railway (NER) will run 122 Puja Special Trains, completing 2,484 trips to different destinations across India.
According to Pankaj Kumar Singh, Chief Public Relations Officer of NER, the move aims to ensure passengers can travel comfortably during the high-demand festive season.
80 Trains Originating From North Eastern Railway Zone
Out of the total, 80 special trains will originate from key stations under the NER zone — including Gorakhpur, Chhapra, Gomtinagar, and Mau — making 1,208 trips.
An additional 42 special trains will pass through the zone, completing 1,276 trips.

Major Routes From Gorakhpur
The railway has planned an extensive network connecting Gorakhpur to major cities such as Mumbai, Delhi, and Kolkata. Here’s a quick look at the routes and total trips:
- Mumbai (CSMT) – 132 trips
- Pune – 130 trips
- Kolkata (Sealdah) – 30 trips
- Asansol – 14 trips
- Dhanbad – 22 trips
- New Delhi – 20 trips
- Dibrugarh – 14 trips
- Guwahati (Narangi) – 18 trips
- Jodhpur – 18 trips
- Ranchi – 6 trips
- Vadodara – 20 trips
This year’s schedule marks one of the largest festive deployments from the NER zone in recent years.
Berth Availability and Booking
Good news for passengers — ample berths are still available across most of these Puja Special trains. Indian Railways has confirmed that tickets can be easily booked for several key routes in October.

- 03132 Gorakhpur–Sealdah Special: October 10, 15, 17, 22, 24
- 09112 Gorakhpur–Vadodara Special: October 13, 20

- 08630 Gorakhpur–Ranchi Special: October 19, 26

Passengers are advised to book early through IRCTC or at railway reservation counters to avoid last-minute rushes.
