In the midst of the continuing debate over the opening of the new parliament building on May 28, the Ministry of Finance announced on Thursday that a commemorative Rs. 75 coin will be issued to mark the event.

According to reports, one side of the coin would depict the Lion Capital of the Ashoka Pillar with the words “Satyamev Jayate” beneath it, while the term “Bharat” will be printed in Devanagari script on the left side and the phrase “India” in English on the right.
The coin will also have the rupee symbol and the denomination value of 75 inscribed underneath the Lion Capital in international numbers.
The picture of the parliament complex will appear on the reverse side of the coin.
The words “Sansad Sankul” will be written in Devanagari script on the top perimeter, while “Parliament Complex” will be written in English on the bottom periphery.
The coin will be round in form, having a diameter of 44 millimeters and 200 serrations along its edges. The 35-gram coin will be comprised of a four-part alloy of 50% silver, 40% copper, 5% nickel, and 5% zinc.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will dedicate the new parliament building on Sunday.
While up to 25 opposition parties are expected to attend the event, at least 20 have announced their intention to boycott it.
