Mullanpur: Rajasthan Royals sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi continues to rewrite the IPL record books. The young batter achieved another remarkable milestone during IPL 2026 Qualifier 2 against Gujarat Titans, becoming the first player in tournament history to score more than 500 runs in the powerplay in a single season.
The record-breaking feat adds another chapter to what has already been a dream campaign for the Rajasthan Royals star. Just days after narrowly missing the fastest century in IPL history during the Eliminator against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Sooryavanshi once again showcased his fearless batting approach on the biggest stage.

First Batter to Reach 500 Powerplay Runs
Rajasthan Royals suffered an early setback against Gujarat Titans as Yashasvi Jaiswal and Dhruv Jurel were dismissed within the first two overs. However, Sooryavanshi took control of the innings and ensured the pressure never shifted completely in Gujarat’s favour.
During the powerplay, the right-hander scored 31 runs from just 17 deliveries, taking his tally to 502 runs in the first six overs across IPL 2026. No batter in IPL history had previously crossed the 500-run mark in the powerplay during a single season.
What makes the achievement even more impressive is the manner in which those runs have come. Across 16 innings, Sooryavanshi has maintained a staggering strike rate of 232 in the powerplay. He has been dismissed only six times during this phase.
A massive 452 of his 502 powerplay runs have come through boundaries, including 47 fours and 44 sixes, underlining his aggressive intent from the very first ball.
David Warner’s Long-Standing Record Broken
Before Sooryavanshi’s record-breaking season, the benchmark belonged to former Sunrisers Hyderabad captain David Warner.
Warner had scored 467 powerplay runs during the 2016 IPL season, a campaign that eventually ended with Sunrisers Hyderabad lifting the trophy. For nearly a decade, that record remained untouched before Sooryavanshi finally surpassed it.
Most Powerplay Runs in an IPL Season
- 502 runs – Vaibhav Sooryavanshi (2026)
- 467 runs – David Warner (2016)
- 402 runs – Travis Head (2024)
- 402 runs – Sai Sudharsan (2025)
- 382 runs – Adam Gilchrist (2009)
Another Major Milestone: 700 Runs in IPL 2026
The records do not stop there.
During the same match, Sooryavanshi also became the first batter to cross the 700-run mark in IPL 2026. He already holds the Orange Cap and has established a significant lead over the rest of the field.
His season has been defined by explosive starts, fearless stroke play and a remarkable ability to dominate bowling attacks regardless of conditions.
The Rajasthan Royals opener is also the leading six-hitter of the season and is now closing in on several all-time IPL batting records. With the playoffs reaching their decisive stage, Sooryavanshi has emerged as the biggest game-changer of IPL 2026.
