According to various rumors, the 2023 ODI World Cup would not feature an opening ceremony. It was previously reported that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) planned a lavish opening ceremony at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium on October 4, the evening before the quadrennial competition begins. Bollywood celebrities such as Ranveer Singh and Tamannaah Bhatia, as well as singers Arijit Singh, Shreya Ghoshal, and Asha Bhosle, were expected to attend the ceremony. It was also scheduled to include fireworks and a laser show to commemorate the start of the ICC Cricket World Cup in India in 2023.
The star-studded opening ceremony was set to begin at 7 p.m. IST, immediately following a ‘Captains’ Day’ function at the Narendra Modi Stadium. While the Captains’ Day event is still going on, no official announcement has been made regarding the cancellation of the opening ceremony.
All of the captains of the 50-over World Cup teams, including Team India captain Rohit Sharma, will be in Ahmedabad for the Captain’s Day event.
On October 14, India and Pakistan will square off in Ahmedabad in one of the tournament’s most anticipated matches. While India is coming into the World Cup after winning the Asia Cup and a 2-1 series against Australia, Pakistan has not been as consistent recently, losing to India decisively in the Asia Cup and falling to Australia by 14 runs in their World Cup warm-up match on Tuesday.
