LIVE CHANDRAAN-3 UPDATE: While the world waits for India’s historic moment, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has successfully shortened the orbit of the Chandrayaan-3 mission’s lander module and announced that it would now touch down on the Moon’s surface at 6.04 pm on August 23.
“The soft landing of Chandrayaan-3 is a historic event that not only fuels curiosity but also sparks a passion for exploration inside the minds of our youth,” said the ISRO on X (formerly Twitter).
This important advancement comes after the lander successfully completed its second and final deboosting maneuver on Sunday. Before trying the final touchdown, the lander will go through internal tests and wait for daylight at the planned landing place.

The second and final de-boosting operation for Chandrayaan-3 was conducted successfully on Sunday, decreasing the orbit of its lander module to 25km x 134km, according to the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
