The midsize SUV market remained fiercely competitive in July 2026, with Hyundai Creta retaining the top spot while Mahindra Scorpio and Kia Seltos followed closely. The month also highlighted the growing impact of newer models such as Maruti Suzuki Victoris, Tata Sierra, Mahindra XEV 9S and Nissan Tekton, adding fresh competition across petrol, hybrid and electric SUV segments.
Hyundai Creta Holds No. 1 Spot
Hyundai Creta continued its strong run in the midsize SUV segment, recording 18,088 units in July 2026. Sales were up 7 per cent compared with 16,898 units sold in July 2025. With an estimated 13.8 per cent share of the segment, the Creta remained the best-selling model on the list.
Mahindra Scorpio secured the second position with 16,009 units. Its sales increased 16.5 per cent year-on-year from 13,747 units in July 2025. The Scorpio accounted for around 12.2 per cent of the segment, keeping the gap with the Creta relatively tight.
Kia Seltos was the biggest growth story among the established names. The new-generation Seltos recorded 12,541 units in July, compared with 6,010 units in the same month last year. That translates into a massive 108.7 per cent year-on-year increase, giving the SUV a 9.5 per cent segment share.

Maruti Suzuki Victoris Makes a Strong Impact
Maruti Suzuki Victoris continued to make its presence felt, finishing fourth with 11,334 units. The SUV, sold through Maruti Suzuki’s Arena network, secured an estimated 8.6 per cent share of the segment and finished ahead of several established midsize SUV rivals.
The Mahindra XUV 7XO took fifth place with 8,233 units. Its sales rose 16.7 per cent year-on-year from 7,054 units in July 2025, giving it a 6.3 per cent share.
Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara was close behind at 8,127 units. Sales grew 27.5 per cent from 6,373 units recorded a year earlier. The Grand Vitara accounted for approximately 6.2 per cent of the segment.
Hyryder Slips as New Models Gain Ground
Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder recorded 7,187 units in July 2026, down 18.5 per cent from 8,814 units in July 2025. Despite the decline, it remained comfortably inside the top 10.
Tata Sierra, covering its ICE and electric versions in the reported figures, finished eighth with 6,327 units. Its arrival has added another important name to an already crowded midsize SUV market.
MG Windsor EV followed with 4,659 units, registering 8.1 per cent annual growth over the 4,308 units sold in July 2025. The Windsor continued to underline the increasing role of electric SUVs in this segment.
Mahindra XEV 9S recorded 4,131 units and secured around 3.1 per cent of the segment. The model was followed by Tata Harrier, which posted 3,301 units, representing a strong 49 per cent year-on-year increase.
XEV 9e, Curvv and e Vitara Complete the Top 15
Mahindra XEV 9e recorded 1,793 units in July, while Tata Curvv finished with 1,697 units. Curvv sales were down 15.4 per cent compared with the corresponding period last year.
Maruti Suzuki e Vitara entered the top 15 with 1,675 units. Nissan Tekton, another relatively new entrant, was just behind at 1,670 units.
The Volkswagen Taigun and Skoda Kushaq remained outside the top 15, with 1,225 and 833 units respectively. Other models lower down the overall ranking included Mahindra BE 6, Renault Duster and Toyota Urban Cruiser eBella.

What July Sales Tell Us
The July 2026 rankings show that the midsize SUV battle is no longer dominated by a handful of familiar petrol models. Established leaders such as Creta and Scorpio continue to deliver strong volumes, but newer launches are quickly changing the shape of the segment.
Kia Seltos’ 108.7 per cent growth stands out, while Maruti Suzuki Victoris has immediately moved into the top four. Tata Sierra, Mahindra XEV 9S, Maruti Suzuki e Vitara and Nissan Tekton also made the top 15, showing how quickly the market is expanding across different powertrain options.
For buyers, that means more choice than ever. For manufacturers, the July numbers underline a simple reality: the midsize SUV segment is getting crowded, and strong sales now depend on more than just having a familiar badge.
