On August 2 morning, his dead corpse was discovered at his N D Studio in Karjat. Sets for Slumdog Millionaire and Kaun Banega Crorepati were also constructed by the four-time National Award winner for art direction. He worked on several Bollywood films, including Lagaan, Jodhaa Akbar, Munnabhai M.B.B.S., and Lage Raho Munna Bhai.
Desai’s death has been verified by Maharashtra MLA Mahesh Baldi. “He was under financial stress, and this could be the only reason for his suicide,” he told ANI.
“We discovered the body of art director Nitin Desai hanging in his Karjat studio.” A set worker told police of the incident.
