RVE Ducati Hypermotard 698 Mono Unveiled

Ducati announced the specifications of its new high-strung Superquadro Mono engine just a few days ago, and now it has debuted the Hypermotard 698, the first motorbike powered by the same.

    • The RVE model comes equipped with a quick-shifter and a unique color scheme.
    • Both ends of the suspension are fully adjustable.
    • 151 kg kerb weight (without gasoline); typical lithium battery

When combined with the Termignoni race exhaust, the new single-cylinder mill produces 77.5hp and 63Nm, increasing to 84.5hp and 67Nm. This engine is paired with a 6-speed manual transmission with a slip-and-assist clutch, with a bidirectional quickshifter available as an option. The bidirectional quick-shifter is standard on the RVE model.

With a large, flat bench-style seat and a beaky front fender, the styling is reminiscent of a Hypermotard. Despite the fact that this is a single-cylinder engine, Ducati has kept the dual exhaust mufflers.

The Superquadro Mono is housed in a new trellis frame that Ducati says weighs only 7.2kg. In reality, the complete bike weighs just 151kg (kerb, unfueled). Suspension is handled by a USD fork and mono shock (both fully adjustable), the former provided by Marzocchi and the latter by Sachs.

At the front, a radial M4.32 monobloc caliper bites down on a 330mm disc, and dual-channel ABS comes standard, which can be switched off at the rear, in a true supermoto manner. Pirelli provides the tires, with the front hoop measuring 120/70-ZR17 and the rear measuring 160/60-ZR17, both running Diablo Rosso 4 rubber.

Cornering ABS and traction control, engine braking control, three power modes, four riding modes, and launch control are among the electronic rider aids offered. Wheelie control is available as an add-on. A 3.5-inch LCD dash controls all of this assistance.

At the moment, it is unknown whether this new engine will be used in future Ducati models. The KTM 690 SMC R is the Hypermotard 698 Mono’s main rival, and the Austrian manufacturer hasn’t utilized its huge single-cylinder engine in another model in quite some time.
