Thane, brace yourselves! If you live around Ghodbunder Road, Vartak Nagar, or Kalwa, you might want to fill those water buckets in advance—because there’s a 12-hour water cut heading your way on May 21.
What’s Going On?
The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has announced that water supply will be completely shut off in several areas for 12 hours on Wednesday, May 21, from 9 AM to 9 PM.
Why? Maintenance work. Specifically, TMC is carrying out important pre-monsoon repairs at the Pise pumping station and Temghar water purification center. That includes control panel fixes and transformer oil filtration at the high-pressure substation—basically, the kind of behind-the-scenes work that keeps your water flowing all year long.
Areas That’ll Be Affected
If you’re in any of these places, expect no water supply during the maintenance window:
- Ghodbunder Road
- Vartak Nagar
- Ritu Park
- Jail area
- Gandhi Nagar
- Rustamji
- Siddhanchal
- Samata Nagar
- Internity
- Johnson
- Parts of Kalwa
So yeah, that’s a pretty big chunk of Thane.
And After the 21st?
Even after the water supply resumes post-9 PM, don’t expect full pressure right away. TMC has warned that water pressure may be low for a day or two after the work is done. Just a heads-up so you’re not caught off-guard.

What Should You Do Now?
TMC is asking residents in all these areas to store enough water in advance and cooperate while the maintenance work is underway. Basically, don’t wait till the last minute—fill up your storage tanks, bottles, and buckets before Wednesday morning.
Why This Matters
This kind of scheduled maintenance is all part of prepping the city for monsoon season. It may be inconvenient for a day, but it helps prevent bigger problems down the road—like unexpected breakdowns when heavy rains hit.
So, while it’s a hassle, it’s also necessary. Plan ahead, stay hydrated, and maybe skip laundry day on May 21!
