Airtel Teams Up with Google to Offer Free Cloud Storage and Take on Jio’s Shrinking Offer

In a bold move to win over data-hungry users, Bharti Airtel has joined forces with Google to offer 100 GB of free Google One cloud storage for six months to its postpaid and Airtel Wi-Fi customers. This offer lands just as Jio quietly reduces its own free cloud storage deal from 100 GB to 50 GB—with no clear expiration date in sight.

What’s the Deal?

Starting now, Airtel’s postpaid and home Wi-Fi users can enjoy six months of free access to 100 GB of Google One storage. That’s more than enough room for WhatsApp backups, Gmail clutter, photo dumps, and more.

After the six months are up, users can continue the plan for ₹125/month—slightly cheaper than Google’s standard rate of ₹130/month once the usual free 15 GB runs out.

Why Now?

The move comes at a time when cloud storage is becoming a real pain point, especially since WhatsApp backups now eat into your Google storage quota. With smartphone cameras clicking thousands of photos and videos, and work documents flying through email and Drive, most users hit that 15 GB limit fast.

Instead of forcing people to delete precious memories or shell out for external storage, Airtel is offering a smarter solution—cloud space that’s free (at least for a while), simple to activate, and deeply integrated with Android.

How It Stacks Up Against Jio

While Reliance Jio was first to drop the free cloud bomb, they’ve now scaled it back. Their revised plan offers only 50 GB of cloud storage—with no clear terms on how long it lasts or what exactly it covers.

Airtel, on the other hand, is being more upfront. The six-month period is clearly defined, and the storage is on Google One, meaning users can take advantage of Google Photos, Drive, Gmail, and more, all in one place.

Plus, Airtel lets you share that 100 GB with up to five family members, which is a sweet bonus for households with multiple devices.

Why It Matters

“With smartphones becoming the go-to for everything from photos to office files, storage is a serious issue,” said Siddharth Sharma, CEO of Connected Homes at Airtel. “This Google partnership gives millions of our users more breathing room—literally.”

Airtel has 25.8 million postpaid users in India, making this offer a big deal for people who are constantly battling low storage warnings.

Final Thoughts

This isn’t just about gigabytes—it’s about peace of mind. With Google’s powerful ecosystem and Airtel’s wide reach, this offer makes switching phones, backing up chats, and keeping your digital life safe a whole lot easier.

And in the ever-growing tug-of-war between Airtel and Jio, this cloud storage face-off might just be the latest battleground
