Mirzapur The Movie has received an ‘A’ certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) after the makers made several changes to the film. According to a report by Bollywood Hungama, the censor board asked for certain cuss words and dialogues to be modified, along with a 50% reduction in intimate scenes. However, the film’s violent and gory sequences were not cut.

The CBFC reportedly asked the makers to mute cuss words at four places in Mirzapur The Movie. At six other points, certain abuses were replaced with what the board considered more appropriate words.
One dialogue, “Galey se lag gar”, was also modified during the certification process. A word in the first half was replaced with “kamar”, while the word “lanth”, used in the post-interval portion, was also changed.
A caste-related reference in the film was reportedly modified as part of the CBFC’s required changes. These edits come as the film prepares for its theatrical release following the massive popularity of the original Mirzapur series.

Intimate scenes reduced, violence remains untouched
The more notable visual change involved intimate content. The CBFC asked the makers to reduce the intimate scenes by 50%.
Interestingly, the certification process did not result in cuts to the film’s violent or gory sequences. That is particularly noteworthy for a franchise known for its gritty crime drama, brutal confrontations and intense action.
The film received its ‘A’ certificate on August 29. An adult certificate means Mirzapur The Movie will be restricted to viewers aged 18 and above in theatres.
Mirzapur The Movie runtime crosses three hours
Another talking point is the film’s runtime. Mirzapur The Movie reportedly runs for more than three hours, putting it among the longer theatrical releases of the current period.
Long runtimes have become increasingly common in big-ticket Indian films, particularly action-heavy and franchise-driven projects. The trend has also been visible in recent releases such as Toxic, which has a reported runtime of 3 hours and 14 minutes.

Mirzapur The Movie is scheduled to release in theatres on September 4, 2026. The film brings the world of the hit Prime Video series to the big screen, with several familiar characters returning for a new battle over power and the throne of Mirzapur.
The cast includes Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Divyenndu, Jitendra Kumar, Abhishek Banerjee, Rasika Dugal, Mohit Malik, Sheeba Chadha, Rajesh Tailang, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Harshita Shekhar Gaur, Shweta Tripathi, Sonal Chauhan, Anangsha Biswas, Shaji Choudhary, Sushant Singh and Ravi Kishan.
Directed by Gurmmeet Singh and written by Puneet Krishna, the film is produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar under the Excel Entertainment banner. Kassim Jagmagia and Vishal Ramchandani are credited as co-producers.
