According to Uttar Pradesh’s ADG Law and Order, Prashant Kumar, there was a plan to ambush the police convoy in order to let gangster-politician Atiq Ahmed and his sibling Ashraf escape. His comments came after Atiq’s son, Asad Ahmed, was murdered in a shootout with the UP Police Special Task Force.

Prashant Kumar, the ADG Law and Order in Uttar Pradesh stated that the UP Police had received information that an attack on the police convoy transporting the accused Atiq and Ashraf to the state of UP in the Umesh Pal murder case may assist the accused Atiq and Ashraf escape.

Prashant Kumar told a news conference that the UP Police were actively looking for the suspects in the Umesh Pal murder case.

Prashant Kumar, speaking about Asad and his aide’s encounter, stated that there was gunfire from both sides and that the accused were hurt before succumbing to death during the struggle.

“The government has implemented a zero-tolerance policy towards the mafia.” “The outcome of this policy is now in front of everyone,” Prashant Kumar stated.

Notably, Asad and Gulam had a Rs 5 lakh reward on their heads and were fleeing the Umesh Pal murder case.

On Thursday, Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf appeared in the Umesh Pal murder case at the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Court in Prayagraj. Ashraf and Atif were both remanded in jail for seven days.

Prayagraj Police has requested that Ashraf and Atiq Ahmed be held in detention for 14 days for interrogation.
