The Maruti Suzuki Dzire continued to dominate India’s sedan market in July 2026, selling 23,791 units and accounting for more than 63 per cent of the combined sales of the nine sedans featured in the list. Hyundai Aura and Honda Amaze followed, with the Amaze recording the strongest year-on-year growth among the top three models.
India’s Sedan Market Grows 14% in July
The nine sedans together recorded 37,728 units in July 2026, compared with 33,106 units during the same month last year. That translates into a year-on-year growth of around 14 per cent, showing that demand for select sedan models remains steady despite the growing popularity of SUVs.
The Maruti Suzuki Dzire was comfortably ahead of the competition. It recorded 23,791 units in July, up from 20,895 units in July 2025. The 13.9 per cent annual increase gave the Dzire a 63.1 per cent share of the combined volumes in this list.

Hyundai Aura Holds Second Position
The Hyundai Aura finished second with 5,817 units in July 2026. Its sales increased from 4,636 units in the same month last year, representing a 25.5 per cent year-on-year rise.
With 15.4 per cent of the combined segment volume, the Aura remained the closest model to the Dzire, although the gap between the two was still substantial.
Honda Amaze Records the Biggest Growth Among Top Sellers
The Honda Amaze secured third place with 3,436 units in July 2026. Its sales jumped from 2,009 units in July 2025, resulting in an impressive 71 per cent year-on-year increase.
The Amaze therefore recorded the strongest percentage growth among the three highest-volume sedans in the list. Its contribution to the combined segment volume stood at 9.1 per cent.
Volkswagen Virtus Sales Decline
The Volkswagen Virtus occupied fourth position with 1,420 units in July 2026, down from 1,797 units a year earlier. The 21 per cent decline came despite the sedan remaining one of the stronger performers in the midsize segment.
The Virtus accounted for 3.8 per cent of the combined sales covered in the July 2026 ranking.
Slavia, Tigor and Verna Remain Close
The Skoda Slavia ranked fifth with 993 units in July 2026, compared with 1,168 units in July 2025. Its sales declined by 15 per cent year-on-year, giving it a 2.6 per cent share of the combined volumes.
Tata Tigor followed with 758 units. The compact sedan registered a 21.7 per cent decline from 968 units sold in July last year, while its share stood at around 2 per cent.
The Hyundai Verna was just behind the Tigor at 737 units. Its sales fell 10.8 per cent year-on-year from 826 units in July 2025, leaving it with a 2 per cent share.

Honda City and Toyota Camry Complete the List
The Honda City finished eighth with 571 units in July 2026, compared with 646 units in the corresponding month last year. This represented an 11.6 per cent annual decline, with the City accounting for around 1.5 per cent of the combined volumes.
The Toyota Camry completed the ranking with 205 units, up from 161 units in July 2025. The premium hybrid sedan recorded a 27.3 per cent year-on-year increase, although its overall contribution remained limited at around 0.5 per cent.

Dzire Continues to Set the Pace
The July figures highlight the sharp gap between the Dzire and the rest of the sedan market. The Maruti Suzuki model alone sold more than four times the combined volume of the Hyundai Aura and Honda Amaze.
At the same time, the strong growth recorded by the Amaze and Aura suggests that buyers are still showing interest in compact sedans. However, the contrasting performance of models such as the Virtus, Slavia, Tigor, Verna and City underlines the pressure faced by several sedans as Indian consumers increasingly shift towards SUVs.
Overall, July 2026 delivered a positive month for the sedan models covered here, with combined volumes rising by about 14 per cent year-on-year. The Dzire remained the clear market leader, while the Honda Amaze emerged as the standout growth story.
