Tata Punch emerged as India’s best-selling compact SUV in July 2026, comfortably staying ahead of the Maruti Suzuki Fronx and Tata Nexon as the segment recorded strong year-on-year growth. The Punch, including its ICE and EV volumes, nearly doubled its sales compared with July last year, while most of the other leading models also reported healthy annual growth.

Tata Punch Leads July 2026 Compact SUV Sales
The Tata Punch topped the compact SUV sales chart with combined ICE and EV sales of 21,313 units in July 2026, compared with 10,785 units during the same month last year. The increase of 10,528 units translated into a 97.62 per cent year-on-year growth, giving the Punch an 18.29 per cent share of the segment.
The Maruti Suzuki Fronx finished second with 19,473 units in July 2026. The model had recorded 12,872 units in July 2025, meaning its sales increased by 6,601 units over the year. This resulted in 51.28 per cent year-on-year growth and gave the Fronx a 16.71 per cent share.
Tata Nexon secured the third position with 17,471 units, compared with 12,825 units in July 2025. Its sales increased by 4,646 units, representing 36.23 per cent annual growth. The Nexon accounted for 14.99 per cent of the segment’s total sales.
Maruti Brezza Sales Decline
The Maruti Suzuki Brezza was the only model among the top five to record a year-on-year decline. It registered 12,055 units in July 2026, down from 14,065 units in July 2025.
The 2,010-unit drop resulted in a 14.29 per cent decline, while the Brezza held a 10.34 per cent share of the segment. The recent arrival of the facelift is expected to influence its sales performance in the coming months as deliveries of the updated model get underway.
Hyundai Venue, XUV 3XO Continue Strong Run
The Hyundai Venue finished fifth with 11,095 units in July 2026, compared with 8,054 units a year earlier. Its sales increased by 3,041 units, translating into 37.76 per cent year-on-year growth. The Venue accounted for 9.52 per cent of the segment.
Mahindra XUV 3XO followed with 9,429 units, up from 7,238 units in July 2025. The 2,191-unit increase resulted in 30.27 per cent annual growth, giving the XUV 3XO an 8.09 per cent share.
The Kia Sonet stood seventh with 8,913 units against 7,627 units in July last year. Its sales grew by 1,286 units, representing 16.86 per cent year-on-year growth. The Sonet held a 7.65 per cent segment share.

Hyundai Exter and Skoda Kylaq Post Gains
The Hyundai Exter occupied eighth position with 6,810 units in July 2026. It had recorded 5,075 units in the same month last year. The 1,735-unit increase translated into 34.19 per cent annual growth.
The Skoda Kylaq was ninth with 3,727 units, compared with 3,377 units in July 2025. Its sales increased by 350 units, resulting in 10.36 per cent year-on-year growth and a 3.20 per cent segment share.
Toyota Taisor completed the top 10 with 2,470 units in July 2026. The model had sold 1,687 units in July 2025, registering an increase of 783 units. This represented 46.41 per cent annual growth.

What Happened Outside the Top 10?
The Nissan Magnite recorded 1,462 units in July 2026, followed by the Kia Syros at 1,303 units. The Maruti Suzuki Jimny and Renault Kiger completed the remaining sales in the segment with 528 units and 503 units, respectively.
Overall, July’s numbers show that the compact SUV market remained highly competitive, with the majority of leading models posting double-digit annual growth. The Tata Punch stood out with the biggest percentage increase among the top 10, while the Fronx and Taisor also recorded particularly strong year-on-year gains.
The next few months could make the rankings even more interesting, especially as newer updates and fresh product launches begin to reflect in monthly deliveries. For now, however, Tata Punch has a clear lead over the Fronx and Nexon in the July 2026 compact SUV sales race.
