This is the first documented accident on Navi Mumbai’s Atal Bihari Vajpayee Trans Harbour Link, often known as Atal Setu. Prime Minister Narendra Modi integrated it on January 12.
The bridge, measuring 21.8 kilometers in length and six lanes, cost more than ₹18,000 crore. It begins in Sewri, Mumbai, and ends at Nhava Sheva, Uran Taluka, Raigad District.
The bridge is said to give speedier access between Mumbai International Airport and Navi Mumbai International Airport, as well as shorter travel times between Mumbai and Pune, Goa, and South India. It would also increase connection between the Mumbai and Jawaharlal Nehru ports.
The sea bridge has reduced the travel time between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai from two hours to only 20 minutes. The bridge has a one-way toll of ₹250. The rates for repeat trips and regular commuters vary.
The maximum speed restriction for four-wheelers on the MTHL is 100 kmph, while the ascent and descent of the bridge are limited to 40 kmph.
over an average, 70,000 cars are estimated to ply over the sea bridge. According to the MMRDA’s traffic forecasts, approximately 1.33 lakh cars are predicted to utilize the Sewri-Shivaji route by 2032.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the bridge in December 2016. Construction on the bridge began in 2018. The project was supposed to open to the public in 4.5 years, however it was postponed by eight months because to the Covid-19 epidemic.
