Chennai, August 17 — Rajinikanth’s Coolie has been the talk of the town all weekend, pulling massive numbers at the box office. The film, which marks Thalaivar’s golden jubilee in cinema, opened with a bang but now faces the big question: will it crack the ₹200 crore club by the end of Day 4?
A Flying Start but Signs of Slowdown
The movie stormed into theatres on August 14 (Thursday) with a record-breaking opening. By Day 2, it had already crossed the ₹100 crore mark — a milestone most films can only dream of. By Saturday, Day 3, Coolie was comfortably sitting at ₹150 crore domestic collections.
Sunday (Day 4), though, brought a little dip. According to early numbers from industry tracker Sacnilk, the film raked in ₹15.59 crore till 5 PM, taking its 4-day India total to ₹174.84 crore. The final Sunday night figure could push that higher, but whether it’ll be enough to make that magical ₹200 crore leap remains to be seen.

Worldwide Domination
If the domestic scene is strong, the global picture is even more spectacular. By Day 3, Coolie had already grossed a staggering ₹320 crore worldwide, with ₹131.5 crore coming from overseas markets. That makes it the biggest Indian opener of 2025 and the first-ever Tamil film to smash past ₹150 crore worldwide on Day 1 itself.
What’s Driving the Craze?
Apart from Rajinikanth’s unbeatable mass appeal, the film’s star-studded lineup is drawing attention. With Nagarjuna, Upendra, Sathyaraj, Shruti Haasan, Reba Monica John, and even a special Aamir Khan cameo, Coolie packs plenty of star power. Add Lokesh Kanagaraj’s slick direction, and it’s no surprise fans are flocking to theatres across languages — Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada.
