North India Wakes Up to a Rainy Morning
If you’re in Delhi-NCR, you probably woke up to that familiar smell of wet soil and the sound of raindrops tapping your window. Yep, the weather has finally turned!
After weeks of sticky, humid heat, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Delhi and nearby areas, warning of heavy rain and gusty winds throughout the day.
According to IMD, showers are expected to continue intermittently till evening, giving residents a much-needed break from the late-season heat. The dip in temperature also means Delhiites might feel a slight chill in the mornings and evenings again.
IMD Extends Warning to Other Northern States
It’s not just Delhi. IMD says that Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan could also see moderate to heavy rainfall, accompanied by strong winds.
These weather changes are being triggered by active systems over the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea, which are drawing in moisture across the northern plains. Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu has been put on alert too, with 14 districts likely to witness heavy downpours.

Bihar Hit Hard: 19 Dead, Crops Damaged
While Delhi is seeing a pleasant change, Bihar is battling the brunt of relentless rain. Over the past few days, continuous downpours have caused 19 deaths due to lightning strikes and house collapses.
Districts like Muzaffarpur, Jehanabad, Bettiah, and Bhojpur have reported major damage to homes and crops. In Bhojpur alone, around 20 sheep died after being struck by lightning.
Paddy and sugarcane crops across several parts of the state are submerged, dealing a major blow to farmers.
Varanasi Breaks a 125-Year Record
Varanasi has just seen one of its heaviest rains in over a century — a whopping 187 mm in just 21 hours. The city is practically underwater, with the BHU hospital area flooded so badly that OPD services had to be shifted to the parking lot.
Rail services have also taken a hit, with sections of the Ballia route suspended after tracks caved in due to waterlogging.
Patna Drowns in Waterlogging
The situation in Patna is no better. The city has recorded over 32 mm of rainfall, and in Siwan’s Maharajganj, it’s crossed 324 mm — a staggering number for this time of year.
Many schools and Anganwadi centers across Motihari, Saran, Gopalganj, Siwan, and Bhojpur have been closed as a precaution.
Residents are struggling with waterlogged roads, power outages, and traffic snarls, as authorities rush to pump out accumulated water from low-lying areas.

Relief and Trouble — All in One
For Delhi-NCR and much of North India, this change in weather brings both relief and chaos. While the rain has finally ended weeks of uncomfortable humidity, it’s also led to traffic jams, power cuts, and flooding in several parts.
The IMD has advised citizens to stay alert, avoid unnecessary travel, and keep track of official weather updates. Those in flood-prone areas are urged to stay indoors and keep emergency supplies ready.
