If you’re looking for a heartwarming drama with Abhishek Bachchan at his most endearing, Kaalidhar Laapata has its moments. But if you want a tightly woven story that keeps you hooked, this one might leave you feeling a bit… laapata (lost).

Directed by Madhumita Sundararaman (a remake of her own Tamil film KD), the movie follows Kalidhar (Abhishek), a middle-aged man grappling with an unnamed illness—possibly early dementia—who’s abandoned by his greedy family at the Kumbh Mela. What follows is a meandering journey of self-discovery, friendship, and a few life lessons—some touching, others forgettable.

What Works: Abhishek & Daivik’s Chemistry

Abhishek Bachchan brings a quiet, crinkly warmth to his role, making Kalidhar’s vulnerability and resilience feel real. The best scenes are the ones where he bonds with Ballu (Daivik Baghela), a street-smart orphan. Their playful banter, biryani feasts, and bucket-list adventures are the film’s highlights.

Daivik, a fresh face, holds his own against Abhishek, delivering a performance that’s both charming and natural. Sadly, Nimrat Kaur is sidelined with a role that gives her little to do, and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub’s potential feels wasted.

What Doesn’t: A Story That Feels Half-Baked

The film’s biggest flaw? It feels like a patchwork of good ideas that never fully come together. The emotional beats are there—family betrayal, an unlikely friendship, rediscovering life’s joys—but they don’t flow seamlessly. The pacing drags, and by the end, you’re left wondering if the payoff was worth the wait (spoiler: it isn’t).

Final Verdict: Watch for Abhishek, Skip for the Plot

Kaalidhar Laapata isn’t a bad film—it’s just a sleepy one. Abhishek’s performance and his scenes with Daivik make it worth a casual watch, but don’t expect a gripping narrative.
